more from Malachi

Taken from Malachi 3:8-10 (NIV)

8 "Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. "But you ask, 'How do we rob you?' "In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—the whole nation of you—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.

Now i know we were talking about giving and then by giving, receiving so much more in return. But actually, if you read the context before Malachi 3:10, we actually owe it to God to give that 10%. Otherwise we'd be stealing what is due to Him.

It really caught me by surprise when E pointed this verse out. Why? Because it is the only part of the Bible where God is actually asking you to test Him. Very counter to the "Thou shall not put the Lord your God to the test."

Just an observation

Anyway, here are more from scripture on giving:

Luke 6:38
"Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

Matt. 10:8

"Freely you have received, freely give.

Isaiah 58:7

"Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter— when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
